01 The story, in three paragraphs

Why everyone keeps coming back.

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Mérida’s Parque Santa Lucia, Café La Habana serves up an enticing blend of Cuban and Mexican breakfast and lunch delights that transport you straight into a rich cultural and culinary experience. Stepping inside feels like entering a charming Cuban time warp, where authentic decor and a warm, inviting atmosphere envelop you in comfort and nostalgia.

This cozy coffee shop and breakfast restaurant has built a reputation for hearty, flavorful dishes crafted with fresh, local ingredients. Diners rave about the generous portions—perfect for those with a hearty appetite—and the wallet-friendly prices that make indulgence entirely guilt-free. From the rich, buttery Sopa de Tortilla to classic comfort foods infused with Cuban flair, each plate exudes warmth and satisfying depth. You can almost taste the vibrant spices and slow-cooked tenderness in every bite.

The coffee here deserves special mention, brewed fresh and often accompanied by the engaging ritual of watching staff grind beans right before your eyes. While some guests describe it as a simple filtered coffee, its comforting aroma and smooth taste perfectly complement the savory dishes on offer. The lively ambiance is enhanced by natural light that floods the space, softening the cozy dimness inside, while a soundtrack of Cuban and pop tunes, like Bruno Mars, adds a cheerful rhythm to your visit. Friendly staff are quick to make you feel at home — celebrating birthdays with song and surprise desserts, creating memorable moments beyond the delicious food.

Whether you’re stopping by for a leisurely brunch, an energizing breakfast, or a relaxed lunch break, Café La Habana offers more than just meals—it invites you to savor tradition, community, and authentic flavor. Its location in Centro Mérida makes it an ideal spot to recharge before exploring the city’s rich culture. For those seeking a genuine taste of Yucatecan and Cuban fusion, this café promises an experience that lingers long after the last bite.

Lunch stop. Like stepping into a Cuban time warp. Authentic decor and menu selection. Decent prices. Air conditioned. Had a Bruno Mars soundtrack on while we were there. Staff sang 'happy birthday' and brought out a dessert for a guest.

I really enjoyed eating here at Cafe La Habana! It has all the comfort foods and coffee drinks you'd like to choose with both a Mexican and Cuban flair! The restaurant is a little dim inside but that's because there's so much natural light coming in through the windows. You can also purchase fresh ground coffee and watch the staff grind the coffee beans in front of you. It's conveniently located about two to three blocks up from Plaza Grande. The wait staff were very nice, too!

Solid Mexican food, properly sized and good in taste. I went here for lunch and since I usually don’t eat anything in the morning, this meal literally filled me up for the whole day. The portions are huge and good in taste. As for the coffee, don’t expect anything special, as it tastes like a simple filtered coffee. The staff was nice and helpful as well. Fruits have been fresh.

We had a good overall experience in terms of food and service! The combos 10 & 15, huevos divorciados c/ bistec and huevos morros were huge portions along with bread and great flavor. The coffee was to be desired, especially to be a coffee toaster and we were a little disappointed. The service was a little disorganized, the waiter almost dropped someone’s to go while serving us our plates, but the other waiters helped. Great food for the price we spent $15 for great portions!

We visited Cafe La Habana for a late night snack and we both had a torta, Cuban especial y milanesa, the things are huge, in fact we are going to split one next visit. Highly efficient wait staff and a unique atmosphere make for uninteresting dinning experience. Good espresso drinks.
